Mike Justice made a suggestion at the re-union in 2006 that we reintroduce the “Queens Cup”
for the day and award it to the House that attended the most on the day.
The winners this year were Aberdeen and Somerset with a drawer.

The Goldings Boys graves at Waterford.
The service at St Michael & All Angels Church Waterford was at 11-30 Saturday
the 1st of October It was an opportunity to remember the Boys who are buried
there, and who never got the opportunity to pursue their training taught to them at
Goldings, but remain forever overlooking the grounds that they enjoyed in their
maturing years but sadly forgotten.

Over 100 Old Boys, Staff and their Families attended the Memorial Service to the Goldings Boys who are buried at Waterford. Every seat was taken with
Old Boys standing at the back and outside the Church to listen to the very moving service from Reverend Fairbank, and then David Wheatley also a very
poignant but with a little humour added his Eulogy.
Two of the headstones was removed and then replaced by the one pictured right. Fred Barnes and Jean Clark above right helped make this day possible.

2013 Cup photos

At the 2013 Aftercare approached me to tell me when they was clearing a office they came across a card system used by Barnardo’s which indexed boys
who were in Barnardo’s and later went to Goldings. The cards appear to have the persons Barnardo’s number and their number at Goldings along with
personal details as viewed by Barnardo’s. If your name appears on this list or perhaps a former Barnardo friend for them to contact Aftercare, contact
Martine King on Tel No 0208 4987553.
I have already returned at the re-union, cards belonging to Gordon Rath, John Burr, John Mercury, and Bob Bone (Jordan)

Congratulations Jean You’ve Made it, an achievement to be proud of

Jean quest never ends and is still collecting funds
while she decides on her next graves project.
As Barnardos seem to be un forthcoming with
any ideas of where Jeans next project will be she
is hoping somewhere there will be an old Barnardo
Boy or Girl, who may come up with suggestions.
So if there is someone who knows of the whereabouts
of a Barnardo child’s, or children’s grave, as the boys
and girls where very often buried in large numbers
together, and it appears to have been forgotten please
contact the site and maybe Jean can take it from there.

The Goldings Cup will continue in the Hertford Schools F.A.
Sadly it seem to have been decided that there will
no longer be an opportunity for anyone to watch the
games as it will all be done internally by the schools

Email received from Simon a resident at Goldings. 30-08-2022
Hi, Dave.I hope you’re well.
I was passed your details by Denise Dyment. My partner (also called Denise) and I have lived in Goldings Hall since 2016. We’ve been fascinated by the
sight of the Barnardo’s Old Boys coming for their annual visit. It’s such a wonderful part of the hall’s history.
Denise and I run a corporate film production company. We’ve often thought it would be very interesting to make a little film about the Old Boys’ return to
Goldings. So I’d like to propose the following to you: If everyone is ok with it, we’d love to record some film interviews with the Old Boys when they come
to Goldings in October. We’d interview them in one of the hall’s communal areas, and ask them about their memories of the place. We’d then film some
shots of them walking around the hall, and maybe even going into some of the apartments that might have meaning for them. We’ll combine all of this
content in post-production, adding in some music and shots of the grounds, to make what I think could be quite an emotional story.
Needless to say, we’d do this for free. What do you think? Happy to discuss further as needed.
You can see our company at www.Pearldrop.com. Best wishes, Simon.
Unfortunately due to personal reasons Simon could not make it to the reunion weekend and had to postpone making the film next year

Hello Dave,
Lovely to e-meet you. I’m Shereen and I’ve been working on the project to collect around the Barnardo’s Ball Boys at the Museum of London. Let me just
start off by thanking you for the effort you have put in so far contacting the former ball boys about our project. I am so pleased Winston and Tom are interested
and I will contact them now with details of our collection day. I have attached again here our call out sheet with all of the details of the collection day for you
to share around. If anyone wants to attend they need to just let us know by the 26th January. And we would love for you to come as well if you are free. If you
have any objects you could donate to us around the Barnardo’s Ball Boys it would be amazing if you could bring them along, but if not please do join us anyway.
Hopefully the collection day is convenient for everyone but if anyone cannot make it but still wants to contribute we can definitely work something else out.
Please do let me know if you hear of anyone else who is interested and I can pass on more details/answer any questions. And if you have questions yourself feel
free to email me. Best, Shereen.
My reply
Hello Shereen I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you. I did tell Megan Parker from Barnardos to let you know there are lots of stories and images on our website
that you are welcome to use. As I explained I never went to Wimbledon so have no personal stories only that I trained every time but was never picked by our
trainer Reverend Nixon Our website is www.goldings.org Dave
Shereen passed on info for Wimbledon to the BBC and the did an interview with Winston Norton and Sammy Hill about there day at Wimbledon.

GOLDINGS 100 YEARS CELEBRATION CALENDAR 2022-23

I think I can say a great day was had by us all at our reunion this weekend.
Even the summer came back for the the day, it was warm and sunny and walking around Goldings with old mates made a perfect afternoon.
Many thanks to everyone who attended for coming, and the ones who couldn't make it never mind we will be here next year and see you then.
Not one on default and no out of bounds. See you all next year
Once again I would like to thank Jean (Bluenose) and Dave Clark, The former caretakers from Sele Farm Peter and Linda for all their help Linda
(who’s father was a Goldings Boy who marched up fron Stepney in 1922), and of course my family. It couldn’t be achieved without their help.
I think despite our numbers being down this year, Many Thanks Dave 10-10-23

Message to let everyone know there will be a few changes to our Reunion next year October 2024.
Our numbers are getting less, so our main change will be the venue. I've decided to downsize a little, and I have booked Waterford Village Hall, as
most of us know, this is just across the road from the Goldings Bench and Goldings Lane.
Next there maybe be times throughout the Re-union that have changed. I've decided that there will be a morning session from around 10am to 1pm,
perhaps to visit Goldings (with the residents blessing)or other parts of Hertford. At the moment this is flexible. Returning for the evening around
5-30 to 6 o clock for our raffle draw, and a light bite to eat, finishing hopefully around 8 o clock all these times are at the moment flexible and are
still being mulled around in my head. I'm not prepared to entirely give up on our evening get together yet, and these are just my own thoughts, so I
thought I would pass these new proposals on see what feed back I get.
Some Old Boys have suggested we finish the evening but its a long way for Old Boys to come who are not resident in Hertford
