Richard (Dick) Lang

Entered Goldings 1947/48 Aged 12
House: McCall, became a prefect in later years. Trade: Printer
One of the first Printers that served the new seven year
Apprenticeship that was installed at Goldings, which enabled
them to obtain full time work after leaving the Verney.
Dick served his National Service when he lived at the Verney,
and had to return after two years to complete the course.
He earned £2-00 a week at the Verney, and with this had to buy
his own milk, sugar, and his everyday needs. He tells me
that in his days at Goldings that prefects and House Captains
wore a blue shirt . They were also allowed to go into Hertford
i the week, unlike the rest of the boys, who were only allowed
out on a Saturday. He was a Corporal in the Cadets
and a Wimbledon Ball Boy and as he says,
“I joined everything to get the extra Tanner”

He now lives in Derby and is pictured here with his
wife Irene at the 2006 Reunion.
